Frank Szoka Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

BioE Graduate Group member Frank Szoka has received the 2007 Outstanding Faculty Mentorship Award from the UCSF Graduate Students' Association and Graduate Division Alumni Association.

Szoka is a Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and has been with UCSF for over 25 years. His lab studies biochemical and biophysical approaches to macromolecular drug delivery.

He was nominated by over a dozen students and alumni, praising his attentiveness, creativity and his “ever encouraging and optimistic” attitude. Many letters mentioned that the lab was like a big family and that Szoka was like a father figure to them. His award was presented at the 2007 Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony at the Mission Bay Community Center on May 18th.
