Applicants must meet all Graduate Division requirements for the GSI appointment including being a registered graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.1 and no more than two incompletes. If you are currently appointed a GSR, you must receive prior approval from your Faculty Research Advisor to apply for a GSI position.
Testing Policy for non-English Speakers: http://gsi.berkeley.edu/lpp/index.html Beginning with fall semester 2000, all those who are not native speakers of English must pass a test of their proficiency in spoken English before they can hold GSI positions. This policy applies to all prospective GSIs, whatever their citizenship and residency status, and whatever subject they will be teaching.
BIOENGINEERING GRADUATE STUDENT INSTRUCTOR (GSI) POLICYThe Bioengineering Department plans ahead when scheduling classes and planning for the Graduate Student Instructors (teaching assistants) necessary for these courses. By submitting an application for a GSI position in the Bioengineering Department, you make a commitment to serve for the term for which you are applying. It is department policy that you notify the department of any plans to accept other means of financial support. We will, however, make every effort to accommodate your wish to accept other means of financial support, provided we can arrange to meet our scheduled course and instructor commitments.
