Professor and Chair, Department of Bioengineering The College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a senior faculty position in critical areas of bioengineering. This is a tenured, full professor position; the successful candidate will be expected to serve as Professor and Chair of the Department of Bioengineering for a period of three to five years. Berkeley Engineering is among the top three engineering schools in the United States and is the second largest college at UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley is widely regarded as the premier public university in the world.
The Department of Bioengineering, established in 1998, is the newest Department in the College of Engineering and is actively involved in major multi-institutional research initiatives in such areas as synthetic biology, regenerative medicine and alternative energy. The Department's research mission is organized around four major themes: Cell & Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials & Nanobiotechnology, Bioinstrumentation, and Computational Biology. The Berkeley Department of Bioengineering hosts a vibrant and growing community of faculty and students and enjoys a close relationship with the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and the Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3). The Department has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary research and education and seeks to further develop strategic alliances with related academic units, research centers, and industrial partners. The rich environment afforded by the excellence in engineering and the physical and biological sciences at Berkeley, the health sciences at UCSF, the resources of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and the strength of the local biotechnology industry provides fertile ground for the further growth and development of Bioengineering at Berkeley.

Outstanding candidates will have a strong commitment to and demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and service to the profession.
