PART TIME LECTURER POOL – BIOENGINEERING
The Department Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in our department should an opening arise. These are not tenure-track positions – selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Instructors teaching one course with three hours of lecture per week will normally be appointed at 33% time during the semester; exact percentages depend on contact hours and other assigned duties. Due to budget restrictions, no funding is available for visa or relocation expenses.
In addition to lecturing responsibilities, general duties for these positions typically include managing and supporting Graduate Student Instructors, holding office hours, running laboratories and demonstrations, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.
Basic qualifications: Applicants must hold a B.S. degree or equivalent degree at the time of application.
Additional qualifications: The following additional qualifications are required by the start date of the job. An M.S. or Ph.D. or comparable experience/training (e.g. at least five years of science or engineering practice working on complex technical problems, with a documented history of skills development) is required by the start of service. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.A.
Preferred qualifications: Advanced degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering or related field. Also preferred: teaching experience, particularly as an instructor of record for a course or courses in bioengineering or related field; experience managing and training Graduate Student Instructors/Teaching Assistants; and mentorship experience.
Salary Range: $61,930 -$162,227. Starting salary will be commensurate with degrees currently held, past college-level teaching experience and equity within the department.
