“The Bioengineering seminar series is the primary means by which I grow my academic network beyond our home department, and is one of my favorite parts of the week. It has been a particularly valuable resource for me as a junior faculty member to hear expert opinions about starting up a lab and writing grants from people who have done this very well. Several visitors have been very generous with advice about starting my lab, and one even offered to let me read her successful NIH grant proposal. Later that year I was awarded my first NIH grant and was able to expand our lab.”
Our weekly seminar — Wednesdays, Noon – 1pm — brings talented researchers from across the country to share their cutting-edge work with our faculty and students. Speakers are not paid an honorarium, only their travel expenses are covered, and is the major limiting factor in our ability to invite many outstanding visitors.
“Because our seminar series addresses such a wide range of topics, and because we’re Berkeley, we are lucky enough to attract world class researchers who have endless lists of honors and awards.”
