Computational Biology & Bioinformatics Major Program Option - Bioinformatics

This track focuses on the development and use of mathematical and probabilistic/statistical methods for the analysis of biological data. For instance, methods to identify genes in genomes, predict the function or 3D structure of proteins, predict protein-protein interactions, construct phylogenetic trees for protein families or species, and predict protein active sites all fall in this area. Coursework in this track includes more mathematics, probability and statistics, programming and advanced algorithms than many other tracks in the Bioengineering undergraduate curriculum. It also includes more upper division molecular biology, to provide a secure foundation in the core subjects of this highly interdisciplinary area.
