Join the Alternative Breaks leadership team for the 2023-2024 school year!
Lead a Spring 2024 social justice trip or apply to direct the program. Applications due April 9th
What is Alternative Breaks?
Since 2001, Alternative Breaks offers UC Berkeley undergraduates an immersive experiential learning opportunity during academic breaks. Students take a semester-long DeCal to explore social justice issues and learn from community partners during spring break. Need-based scholarships are available!
As a Break Leader, you’ll share your passion and facilitate a 2-unit DeCal course on your trip’s social justice issue. You’ll also plan and coordinate a spring break service-learning trip in collaboration with community partners. Apply here!
As a Student Director, you’ll play a critical role behind the scenes to support Break Leaders (e.g. campus outreach & recruitment, community partnership, finance, fundraisers, and more). Apply here!
Who do we serve?
Community partners include the Latino Equity Advocacy & Policy Institute in the Central Valley, Project Angel Food in Los Angeles, City Slicker Farms in Oakland, Faithful Fools in San Francisco, Border Angels in San Diego, and Camp Tabonuco in Puerto Rico.
Deadline: Sunday, April 9
Interviews: Week of April 17th
Note: No prior Alternative Breaks experience necessary for these positions. Students should demonstrate curiosity to learn and collaborate with community partners, passion for the particular social issue, and commitment to program requirements.
