“I am so grateful for the BioE Scholars Program because through this program, I was able to spend this past summer conducting research in the Kumar Lab on the mechanisms of tumor-initiating cell infiltration and invasion in glioblastoma multiforme. I never imagined that I would get to be in lab so early on, for I am a rising sophomore.”
“This opportunity allowed me to not only make connections and learn from Joseph, my incredible mentor, but also allowed me to meet other people in the lab who are always willing to help. Being surrounded by a group of people who are patient and never hesitate to share their knowledge has helped me become more confident and comfortable with who I am as a student (and now as a researcher). This fall semester, I am going to continue working at the Kumar Lab and I look forward to learning more. Now more than ever I feel that Bioengineering is what I love.”
The BioEngineering Scholars Program (BioESP) is an invitation-only professional development program for undergraduate bioengineering majors from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Our goal is to produce a future cohort of world-class bioengineers who have backgrounds and life experiences that represent the rich diversity of the State of California. BioESP provides the mentorship, advising, resources, research experience and community support these outstanding students have earned, so that together we can define the future of Bioengineering.
