Great results for bioengineers in the 2019 Big Ideas competition – one first place and three third place projects!
Respira Labs, led by MTM alumna Maria Artunduaga and Haas students Nikhil Chacko and Nerjada Maksutaj, took first place in the Hardware for Good category for their technology for the early detection of COPD attacks.
Two BioE teams tied for 3rd place in the same category: MEng team of Davide Asnaghi, and Alex Wong for Project Sparthan, their low-cost controller board for smart prosthetics, and undergrad Emily Huynh for Fractal, a device for acoustic detection and monitoring of bone fractures.
Bioengineering undergraduate Jason Hou is a member of DissolvBio, which took 3rd place in Energy & Resource Alternatives for their work engineering a novel enzyme to degrade polyethylene plastic waste.
