Bioengineering Professor Irina Conboy spoke to the news media in October as a member of a faculty panel on stem cell research.
UC Berkeley’s new Science, Technology and Society Center sponsored the panel discussion of scientists and humanities and social sciences scholars in a unique effort to promote both innovation and values in bioengineering. The discussion ranged from current research efforts to public opinion and ethical issues surrounding stem cell research.
Conboy, who works with stem cells in an effort to combat aging and degenerative diseases, said the interchange is necessary to create a dialogue between academics, researchers and the public.
