Bioengineering Assistant Professor Amy Herr, the 2012 recipient of the Ellen Weaver award from the Nothern California Chapters of the Association for Women in Science.
The award is presented annually to a woman who has combined scientific achievement and support of other women in science. Criteria for scientific achievement include accomplishments made in the laboratory, but not limited to academic or discovery research. Service could have been to the scientific community through professional societies or schools, or to women directly, such as mentoring and career development. The Ellen Weaver Award is designated for a woman early in her career (5-10 years past training).
In addition to being an outstanding scientist, Herr is well known as a dedicated mentor to undergraduate and graduate students in engineering.
