Congratulations to BioE undergrad Robert Chen, who will receive a grant enabling him to work with Dr. Tom Ellis of Imperial College London on a genetic engineering project that he proposed. Robert will spend a year as a visiting researcher at Imperial College on research involving Cas9/CRISPR for manipulating chromosomes in yeast, before returning to the U.S. to pursue graduate studies.
The Whitaker International Program sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their careers within the field. The goal of the program is to assist the development of professional leaders who are not only superb scientists, but who also will advance the profession through an international outlook.
