We are pleased to announce that Dr. Patrick Hsu will be joining the faculty of the Department of Bioengineering as an Assistant Professor, effective January 1, 2020. Hsu comes to us from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where he has been a Fellow and Principal Investigator, after completing his Ph.D. at Harvard University in Biochemistry. He is a UC Berkeley alumnus with a B.A. in Molecular & Cell Biology.
Dr. Hsu is a rising star in the field of genome engineering, having performed some of the earliest studies with CRISPR-Cas9 during his graduate training. At the Salk Institute his lab identified new RNA-guided, RNA-targeting CRISPR systems that enable recognition and control over RNAs in cells. At Berkeley, he proposes to focus on expanding the capabilities of RNA-based CRISPR systems, including development of new delivery methods and applications to the immune system.
Welcome to Berkeley BioE, Professor Hsu!
