The Bioengineering Department relies on gifts from our alumni and generous supporters to provide important supplemental activities for our students.
Seminars from cutting-edge researchers, travel funds to present at conferences, community events, career preparation, awards, scholarships, research funds, and upgrades to teaching lab equipment are all crucial to providing an outstanding education and are supported by donations.
Our BioEngineering Scholars Program (BioESP) provides extra advising, a fall seminar, and community events to help students from underrepresented backgrounds succeed at Berkeley, while the BioESP Fellows program supports some of these students through a summer of mentored research in a faculty laboratory. This program is supported entirely by gift funds, and has long-term impact on the bioengineering community far beyond its modest price.
