November 2007 Department of Bioengineering Chair, Professor Dorian Liepmann, has been elected a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

November 2007 Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering Professor Boris Rubinsky has been given the “ISC Award” from the International Society of Cryosurgery. The award was presented in November in Beijing at the 14th Wprld Congress of the International Society of Cryosurgery.

November 2007 Bioengineering undergrad Albert Mach received the Best Content award in today’s College of Engineering Undergraduate Fall Poster Session.

November 2007 At the annual International Genetically Engineered Machine competition (iGEM) held last fall at MIT,  UC Berkeley’s iGEM squad was named one of six finalists for the grand prize and won Best Poster for their demonstration showing how genetically modified E. coli bacteria might be converted into a cheap—and safe—blood substitute.

August 15, 2007 Technology Review Magazine has named bioengineering Assistant Professor J. Christopher Anderson among the world’s top innovators under the age of 35. Anderson was recognized for his designs for tumor-killing bacteria.

July 2007 Bioengineering Assistant Professor Amy Herr was awarded a Regent’s Junior Faculty Fellowship this summer, a UC Berkeley award for outstanding junior faculty. Herr received the award for her research project, “Nanoreactor Arrays For Probing Dynamic Protein-Protein Interactions”. Congratulations Amy!
