Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering Professor Jay Keasling has been appointed Acting Deputy Laboratory Director of Lawrence Berkeley Lab, and Adjunct Bioengineering Professor Paul Adams has been appointed Acting Director of Berkeley Lab’s Physical Biosciences Division.
Adams is a leading authority on protein crystallography who has been serving as PBD’s deputy director since 2007. He also heads the Berkeley Center for Structural Biology, which operates five protein crystallography beamlines at the Advanced Light Source, and serves as Vice President for the Technologies Division at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, a U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Research Center that is led by Berkeley Lab.
Adams has stepped into the top role to replace Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering Professor Jay Keasling, who has moved on to become Acting Deputy Laboratory Director. Keasling is Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Energy’s Joint BioEnergy Institute, a world leader in synthetic biology, and his work in anti-malarial drugs and his leadership in biofuels research is globally recognized.
